YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team was defeated by Old Westbury on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 4-1.
Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY) scored the Dolphins' goal on a penalty kick five minutes into the second half.
Old Westbury opened the scoring in the 30th minute on a goal from Cassandra Esposito for the early 1-0 lead. Courtney Dixon would add the eventual game winner for the Panthers just under 10 minutes later to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage at the half.
Perla broke through for the Mount on the penalty kick after a foul was whistled inside the box. Perla tucked the ball inside the left post for her first career marker.
Esposito would add two more goals in the second half for the hat trick as the Panthers improved to 4-6 overall on the season and to 4-5 in Skyline Conference play.
Annamaria Buzzetta (Brooklyn, NY) got the start in goal and made four saves, while allowing just one goal. Jen Kushner (Mastic, NY) went the rest of the way for the Dolphins and made one save in just under 54:00 of work. Deborah Ciccorelli made three stops in the winning effort for Old Westbury.
Overall in the game, the Panthers held the edge in shots13-7, while corner kicks favored the Mount 2-1. Fouls whistled in the game were called 16-8 against the visitors.
The loss is Mount Saint Vincent's eighth straight and drops the Dolphins to 1-10 overall on the season and to 1-2 in the Skyline Conference. The team will be back in action again on October 15 when it travels to Bard. Kick-off against the Raptors is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
