YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer teamed was downed by the College of Staten Island on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 8-1. Sophomore
Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, NY) recorded her first career goal in the second half for the Mount's lone goal of the game.
Staten Island posted four goals in each half, including four goals inside the first 25:00 of the contest. Tina Chechel scored three goals, including back-to-back markers in the first half. Staten Island opened the scoring in the second half with a Mount Saint Vincent 'Own Goal' at 50:44 and then posted three goals in the final 15:00 to put the game away.
LeGeyt picked up the Mount Saint Vincent goal after a scramble in front at 71:57. Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY) was stopped at point blank before the rebound bounced around and ended up on LeGeyt's foot. She tapped it in for the Dolphins' first goal in three games.
Overall in the contest, Staten Island held the edge in shots 23-5 with 20 of its shots winding up on goal. Corner kicks in the contest went 6-3 in the game, while fouls were whistled 9-1 against the visitors. Staten Island was also called for offside 10 times in the tilt.
Jen Kushner (Mastic, NY) got the start in goal for the Mount and made seven saves in the first half. Annamaria Buzzetta (Brooklyn, NY) came on in the second half for the Dolphins and made five stops. Tina Bellocchio went the distance in goal for Staten Island and made a pair of saves.
The loss, Mount Saint Vincent's third straight, drops the Dolphins to 1-6 overall on the season. The Mount will be back in action again on September 24 when it hosts CCNY. Kick-off at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
