with a tough 1-0 loss at Staten Island on Sunday in the HVWAC Soccer Championship game. The Dolphins had three player s named to the HVWAC All-Conference team and head coach
Natalie Smith was named the league's Coach of the Year.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 43rd minute from Staten Island's Tina Chechel. She took a pass from Jennifer Nunziata and headed it home for the game winning and championship clinching tally.
Both goalies were strong in the contest, as Mount Saint Vinc ent's Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) made seven stops in her final game. Staten Island's Tina Bellocchio made five saves to earn the win.
Following the contest during the league's award ceremony, three Dolphins earned All-HVWAC accolades. Alessi, as well as Kaitlin Moore (Levittown, NY) and Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY) were honored for their contributions to the team in 2007.
Smith, who is in her first season as head coach at the Mount, was honored by the rest of the league's head coaches as the Coach of the Year. In her first season, she guided the Dolphins to a 7-11 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the HVWAC.
