YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team advanced to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Soccer Championship game with a 1-0 win over CCNY on Thursday afternoon.
Jessica McBain (Troy, NY) scored her fifth goal of the season in the second half to send the Dolphins to victory.
After a scoreless first half, McBain took a pass from Kelly Curran (Jefferson, NJ) and found the back of the net for the only goal of the game at 69:23. McBain took the centering feed and drove through the box and tucked the ball inside the near post for the winner.
Both goalkeepers played solid games on Thursday, with Mount Saint Vincent's Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) making two stops in the contest. CCNY's Angelika Slabiak made six saves for the Beavers.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the advantage in shots at 11-6 and in corner kicks at 3-2. Fouls in the match were 15-11 against CCNY and Mount Saint Vincent was offside four times against just three times for the Beavers.
The win improves the Mount's overall record to 7-10 on the season and it will move on to play at the College of Staten Island in the HVWAC Championship game. Kick-off for Sunday's road game is set for 3:00 p.m.
