Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) recorded her first career shutout as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer squad downed Yeshiva 2-0 for its first win of 2009.
Lugo got the Dolphins on the board with the eventual game winning goal just 7:16 into the match. Her first career marker came on a centering pass from Sarah Colletti (Mansfield, Mass.) off a corner kick. Lugo bested Yeshiva keeper Odelia Rosenberg to give the Mount its first lead of the season.
The game remained 1-0 late into the second half when Horner netted her second goal of the season at the 79:52 mark of the match. She picked up a loose ball outside of the penalty area and unleashed a shot that sailed just under the crossbar to give the Dolphins the final 2-0 advantage.
Miller needed to make just three saves in the contest to pick up her first career shutout. She played the full 90:00 for the Dolphins and now has recorded 126 saves of the season. Rosenberg finished the contest with five saves for the Maccabees.
Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent held an 11-7 edge in shots including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Dolphins also finished the match with nine corner kicks to five for Yeshiva. Fouls in the match were whistled 6-5 against the home standing Dolphins.
The win improves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 1-11 on the season and its Skyline record to 1-5. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday afternoon at league foe St. Joseph's-L.I. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
