STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer squad had its four game winning streak snapped on Thursday with a 3-1 loss at the College of Staten Island.
Jen Lupero (Mamaroneck, NY) scored for the Dolphins, while senior goalkeeper
Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) made 17 saves in the game.
Staten Island opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a goal by Fiosa Begai and would go o to open at 2-0 lead over the Mount at 13:05 on a goal by Melissa Cimilluca. Both Begai and Cimilluca had big nights for Staten Island, as each scored a goal and added an assist.
The Dolphins would cut the deficit in half at the 22:31 mark, when Lupero tallied an unassisted goal. The marker was her third of the season.
Staten Island would add an insurance goal with 5:30 left to play when Noelle Miglino tallied to give Staten Island the final 3-1 advantage.
Alessi played another strong game between the pipes for the Dolphins, making 17 saves. For the season, the senior keeper has stopped 84 shots, good for 9.33 stops per game.
For the game, Staten Island held the advantage in shots at 29-7 and corner kicks at 4-2. Fouls in the contest were 8-5 against Staten Island.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-4 overall on the season and to 2-1 in the HVWAC. The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they play at Skyline Conference foe St. Joseph's (LI). Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
