Women's Soccer falls to second place in HVWAC, 3-1 to CSI Dolphins

Longo scores lone MSV goal in 11th minute; Dolphins now 5-4-1, 4-1 HVWAC

(Riverdale, NY) - Freshman Jamie Longo (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle HS) scored her fourth goal of the 2006 season, and the Mount defense held the potent College of Staten Island offense to 15 total shots, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team lost its second straight game, 3-1 to the CSI Dolphins on Monday during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss the Dolphins fall to 5-4-1 overall, and will finish the regular season as the runner-up in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) as CSI clinched the season championship with the win. Mount Saint Vincent is now 1-4-1 in its last six games after a 4-0 start.

Longo got the Mount going early, scoring off a corner kick in the 11th minute as sophomore Tracy Frank (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue HS) launched a picture-perfect feed to Longo's foot, and the rookie launched a bullet into the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead. For Longo, the tally was her fourth of what has become a tremendous freshman campaign.

However, the goal only seemed to inspire CSI, who dominated play after Longo's goal. The CSI Dolphins scored three goals during an 18:24 span to clinch the win. After Kaitlin Myhre (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville HS) tied the score with a goal from more than 30 yards out at 10:53,  CSI sophomore Fiosi Begai (Staten Island, NY/Wagner HS) tallied consecutive goals on breakaways at 38:35 and 48:00 to put the Dolphins ahead for good. Staten Island used a suffocating defensive effort to hold the Mount at bay. Mount Saint Vincent tallied only 11 shots, and the Mount had very few scoring chances after Longo's goal.

Staten Island goalie Tina Bellocchio registered six saves, while her counterpart, Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) made nine saves.

Mount Saint Vincent will look to get back on track on Thursday, Oct. 19 when they host the College of Saint Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. for their final regular season home game. Prior to the game, three Dolphin seniors will be honored for their outstanding service to Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer during the last four years.
