Alessi makes 10 saves, but Dolphins fall from the ranks of the undefeated, 3-0 to Valiants

Dolphins hold potent Valiant offense off the scoreboard for nearly 68 minutes; travel to Stevens Wednesday night

(Purchase, NY) – Junior goalie Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) made 10 saves, several of which were of the spectacular variety, and the Mount Saint Vincent defense held a very good Manhattanville front line off the boards for nearly 68 minutes, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team lost for the first time this season, 3-0 to Manhattanville College on Friday night during a game played at Manhattanville. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 4-1 for the 2006 season and 2-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Manhattanville took control from the start and had several chances to score during the first half, but Alessi and the Mount Saint Vincent defense held every time. Alessi was spectacular in net, making seven saves during the first half alone, including several breakaway stops. With the score tied at halftime, Mount Saint Vincent regrouped at the break with the hopes of a second-half rally for the second consecutive game.

The rally would prove to never come as the Valiants turned up the pressure even more during the final 45 minutes, and finally broke through in the 68th minute with a goal on a rebound after an incredible diving stop by Alessi. Seven minutes later, the Valiants scored again on an outside shot to make it 2-0. The scoring was capped in the 87th minute as Manhattanville was able to capitalize on another rebound for a goal.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 20-0 as the Valiants controlled the pace and possession for most of the game.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4 when they travel to face defending Skyline Conference Champion, Stevens at 7:00 p.m.
