Junior
Megan Legendre (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon HS) scored twice during the first 12 minutes of play and freshmen
Alison Amos (Plano, TX, Plano) and
Audra Clark (Dallas, TX/Lake Highlands) also each scored twice in the first half as Stevens Institute of Technology jumped out to an 8-0 halftime lead, en route to a 9-1 win over Mount Saint Vincent in Women's Soccer action at Purchase College in Purchase, New York. The Ducks simply overpowered Mount Saint Vincent, outshooting the Dolphins, 42-4 as the Ducks improved to 8-1 overall, including a 2-0 record in the Skyline Conference.
Legendre opened the scoring in the fourth minutes with a breakaway goal, one of seven Stevens goals scored on breakaways during the game, and scored her second on a similar play in the 12th minute. By the time 14 minutes of play had expired, the Ducks led 4-0, and doubled their lead just prior to the half. Had it not been for a heroic goalkeeping effort by Mount Saint Vincent sophomore keeper Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside HS), who made 18 saves, the day could have been much worse for the Dolphins.
The lone Mount Saint Vincent goal was scored by sophomore Melissa Garganta (Kearney, NJ/Kearney HS), who converted a penalty kick opportunity in the 86th minute.
Mount Saint Vincent (3-3, 1-3 Skyline Conference) returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 29 with a home match against Division II St. Thomas Aquinas. The game will be played at Redmond-Cooke Field in Yonkers and will begin at 4:00 p.m.
