Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) made two saves to record her sixth consecutive shutout and increase her goal-less streak to 609:30 as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team downed City College of New York, 6-0 on Monday during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 3-0 overall and ar e 1-0 in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) play.
Gentsch was dominant from the start, scoring in the seventh minute, and adding two more tallies during the first half as the Mount opened a 4-0 lead after 45 minutes. The junior scored her fourth of the game in the 58th minute to make it 5-0 and giving her eight goals and 16 points for the 2006 season. Also scoring for the Mount were junior Marie Garcia (Medford, MA/Medford HS), who tallied a goal and added an assist, and freshman Jamie Longo (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle HS), who netted her second goal of the season in the 35th minute.
Mount Saint Vincent enjoyed a commanding 37-3 edge in shots, and had 10 corner kicks to CCNY's one corner. Had it not been for a yeoman's effort by CCNY goalie Yuri Giraldo (Queens, NY/Long Island City HS), the game may not have been as close.
For Alessi, the last time the junior allowed a goal was during the 16th minute of play during Mount Saint Vincent's 1-0 loss to Manhattanville on Oct. 26, 2005. Since then, she has not yielded a single tally during more than 10 hours of soccer. Alessi and Mount Saint Vincent will look to keep the streak going on Wednesday, Sept. 27 when they host HVWAC foe Medgar Evers at 4:00 p.m.
