(Riverdale, NY) – Farmingdale State University midfielder Jessica Graziano turned a Mount Saint Vincent miscue into a breakaway, and she fired a shot into the back of the next only one minute into the second overtime to lead Farmingdale State to a 2-1 win over Mount Saint Vincent in a game played at Redmond-Cooke Field in Yonkers, NY. Farmingdale State improves to 1-1-1 with the win, including a 1-0 record in the Skyline Conference while Mount Saint Vincent falls to 2-2, including an 0-2 Skyline Conference record.
The Rams opened the scoring in the 14th minute when forward Jenna Leite broke through the Mount defense on a breakaway and scored for the 1-0 lead. Just over 20 minutes later, the Dolphins tied the score when Katherine Gentsch (Staten Island, NY/Curtis HS) turned a beautiful pass from Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) into her fourth goal of the season.
The second half was played primarily at midfield as neither team seemed to gain an advantage in possession, and the same could be said for the first overtime session. However, the Mount's first major mistake of the game proved to be the costliest. Farmingdale had a 26-15 shot advantage, while Ram goalie Pam Baione and Mount goalie Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside HS) each had 10 saves.
Mount Saint Vincent's Skyline Conference slate continues on Friday when the Dolphins host Mount Saint Mary at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played at Gaelic Park on the campus of Manhattan College.
