Gentsch scores four times as Women’s Soccer dominates Maritime in 2006 season opener

Dolphins outshoot Privateers 41-3 en route to shutout win

(Bronx, NY) – Junior Katherine Gentsch (Staten Island, NY/Curtis HS), the 2005 Skyline Conference scoring champion, began 2006 with a bang, scoring four times and leading a simply dominant effort overall as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team opened the 2006 season with a 7-0 win over Maritime College during a game played at Maritime. The win also makes the Mount a 1-0 team in Skyline Conference play.

The game was all Mount Saint Vincent from the start as sophomore Tracy Frank (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue HS) opened the scoring only 7:26 into the game on an unassisted effort. From there, the Dolphins would scored four more times over the next 25 minutes to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Gentsch  scored twice during the first 11 minutes of the second half – her third and fourth goals of the game – to make it a 7-0 game at the 56:13 mark, and then the  Maritime defense held off the Dolphins for the last 34 minutes of play.

Also scoring goals for the Mount were freshmen Jamie Longo (Concord, MA/Concord-Carlisle HS) and Kelly Curran (Hopatong, NJ/Jefferson Township HS). Junior goalie Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) made one save for the shutout win.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Mount Saint Mary for a 7:00 p.m. game.
