goals, and fellow sophomore Alexis Alessi (Rockville Center, NY/Oceanside HS) stopped all five shots she faced as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team downed John Jay, 3-0, in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 6-5 for the 2005 season, including three wins during their last four games.

The Dolphins dominated play from the start, controlling the ball immediately, and for long stretches throughout the game. Gentsch scored a gorgeous goal off of an assist by Kaitlin Whalley (West Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist) just over a minute into play for the Mount Saint Vincent lead. 25 minutes later, Gentsch struck again, this time scoring on a corner kick off of a brilliant pass by Melissa Garganta (Kearney, NJ/Kearney HS) for a 2-0 lead. The corner kick goal was Mount Saint Vincent's first of the season after 79 tries.

Senior Rebecca Bode (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills HS) added an insurance goal in the 44th minute to give the Mount a 3-0 lead that held up for the rest of the game.

The story of the day was the play of the Mount Saint Vincent defense. After allowing six goals during a loss to Centenary on Saturday, the Dolphins were simply overwhelming on defense today, allowing only two first-half shots and five overall. Alessi earned her second shutout of the season with some fine play between the pipes, and the Mount did not allow a corner kick.

Mount Saint Vincent now continues conference play with a trip to Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) foe, St. Elizabeth, on Wednesday. The game begins at 4:00 p.m.
