YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer squad played the Culinary Institute to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night in Yonkers. The Dolphins jumped out a 2-0 lead in the game on the strength of two more goals from junior forward
Mike Hernandez (Ridgefield, NJ). In Mount Saint Vincent's last two games Hernandez has tallied six goals.
Hernandez gave the Dolphins a 1-0 lead at the 34:09 mark when he banged home a failed clear attempt. He struck the ball from just inside the 18-yard box to the far post to give the Mount the lead. Just 1:12 later he netted his second marker on assists from Zack Coppola (Staten Island, NY) and Chris Herrera (Flushing, NY). Coppola got the ball to the box on a throw in and Herrera tipped it to Hernandez's foot for the finish and a 2-0 lead.
The two goal cushion would stand until the 43:49 mark when the Culinary got on the board and cut the deficit in half on a penalty kick. The Culinary would tie the score at 2-2 just seven minutes into the second frame to close out the scoring in the game.
For the match, the Dolphins held the advantage in shots at 17-13. The Mount led in corner kicks for the game 5-4 and off sides were even at one apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Billy Raftery (Throggs Neck, NY) made six saves in the game for the Mount.
With the draw, the Dolphins stand at 2-5-1 overall on the season and 2-0-1 in the HVMAC. Mount Saint Vincent will return to Skyline Conference play on Saturday when it travels to Polytechnic. Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
