Men's Soccer tops Bard 3-0 for second straight win

Dolphins improve to 5-7 with second consecutive shutout win

(Annandale-on-Hudson, NY) - In a rematch of the 2004 Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) Championship Game, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team topped Bard College today,

Junior Chris Herrera scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 56th minute
3-0 in a game played at Bard. The win was the second straight for the Dolphins after five straight games without a win, and also the second consecutive shutout for the Mount defense. The Dolphins are now 5-7 overall heading into the final week of the regular season.

After a scoreless tie heading into halftime, the Mount finally broke through in the 56th minute when junior Chris Herrera (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep HS) converted a penalty kick to give the Mount the lead. 10 minutes later, the Dolphins put the game away with two goals in a 90-second span as Marcus Frederic (Queens, NY/Holy Cross HS) scored a spectacular goal in the 65th minute, and Marco Chiarizia (Staten Island, NY/Msgr. Farrell) added a goal of his own in the 67th minute to clinch the win.

Sophomore goalie Nicholas Sens-Castet (Brooklyn, NY/St. John's Prep HS) earned his second consecutive shutout and third overall this season with eight saves.

The coming week will bring with it three games for the Mount, two of which will be played at home. The string begins with a home match against HVMAC foe, Cooper Union, on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m. The game will be played at Redmond-Cooke Field in Yonkers.
