EWING, NJ – After being washed out on Saturday, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team was downed by New Jersey City University by a 9-0 score on Sunday as part of the College of New Jersey Soccer Classic. Senior keeper
Bill Raftery (Bronx, NY) made nine saves in goal for the Mount, while
Fitzroy Lawson (Yonkers, NY) came on in the second half to make four stops.
NJCU used eight goals in the first half to earn the win on Sunday afternoon. Alex Ceron was the only multiple goal scorer for the Gothic Knights in the game, posting a pair of markers and adding an assist. Walter Avans posted a four point game on Sunday with a goal and a pair of helpers in the winning effort.
Raftery made nine stops on Sunday and now has a team-high 24 saves on the young campaign. Lawson saw his first action between the pipes on Sunday and made his four saves in the second half.
Senior Marco Ferreria (Mount Vernon, NY) and sophomore J.R. Downey (Highland Falls, NY) recorded two of the three shots for the Dolphins in the contest, with each forcing NJCU keeper Julian Cucco to make saves.
Overall in the contest, Mount Saint Vincent was out shot 36-3. The Gothic Knights also held the edge in corner kicks at 6-5, while fouls in the contest went 10-2 against NJCU.
At 0-4 overall on the season, Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action again on the road on Wednesday at USMMA-Kings Point. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
