Men’s Soccer crushes Yeshiva, 7-2, for first win of 2006

MacDonald, Herrera each net hat tricks to give Hisler first career coaching victory

(Riverdale, NY) – Seniors Chris MacDonald (Farmingdale, NY/Nassau CC) and Chris Herrera (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) each netted a hat-trick, and sophomore Michael Hernandez (Ridgefield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) notched his first career goal and added an assist as the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team won for the first time in 2006, a 7-2 victory over Yeshiva on Sunday night during a game played at Randall's Island. The Mount's first win after three consecutive losses gave first-year Head Coach Matt Hisler his first career victory as a college Head Coach.

MacDonald and Herrera left little doubt as to who would control the game from the opening whistle as the duo combined for five goals during the game's first 22 minutes, three of which were scored during the first seven minutes of play, and the Mount led 5-0 at the half. After Yeshiva scored twice during a five-minute span to open the second half to make things interesting, Hernandez scored a beautiful goal in the 67th minute to make it a 6-2 game, and Herrera scored his third of the game in the 84th minute to bring the lead back to five.

Mount Saint Vincent out-shot Yeshiva 26-11, and controlled possession nearly the entire game. Sophomore goalie William Raftery (Bronx, NY/Salesian) earned the win, making seven saves during the first half of play.

Mount Saint Vincent springs right back into action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when they host Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played at Redmond-Cooke Field in Yonkers, NY.
