(Kings Point, NY) – Senior goalie
Martino Cecere (Rye Brook, NY/Blind Brook HS) made eight saves, and the Dolphin defense held a powerful USMMA offensive attack nearly at bay for more than 52 minutes, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team dropped its 2006 season opener, 6-0 to Kings Point during a game played at USMMA on Wednesday night. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 0-1 for the 2006 season, including an 0-1 mark in Skyline Conference play.
The teams played a nearly dead-even first half as USMMA took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to an unassisted goal at the 27:16 mark. Possession was nearly even for the first 45 minutes and Kings Point (2-0, 1-0 Skyline Conference) held a 7-1 shots advantage during the opening half with Cecere making three saves during the first 45 minutes. The second half was a completely different story, however, as Kings Point's depth took over and the Mariners outshot the Mount 23-0 over the final 45 minutes, scoring five times during that span. Cecere was outstanding in net, making five saves during the second half despite facing point blank shots from a Kings Point team that is expected to compete for the Skyline Conference Championship this season.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, Sept. 11 when they host the College of Staten Island at 4:00 p.m. at Redmond-Cooke Field for their home opener. First year Head Coach Matt Hisler will seek his first career win as a college Head Coach on Monday.
