Men’s Soccer closes out Skyline schedule with 4-2 victory of Yeshiva

Hernandez, Gonzalez score two each for the Mount

YONKERS, NY – In its final Skyline Conference game of the season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team earned a 4-2 victory over Yeshiva at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers. Junior Mike Hernandez (Ridgefield, NJ) and freshman Ricardo Gonzalez (Rockland, NY) netted two goals each in the win.

After a scoreless first half, Yeshiva opened the scoring on a goal from David Banoun just 1:16 into the second half. Yeshiva would open a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute when Chaim Bar-Eli found the back of the net for the Macs.

From that point, the Dolphins scored four straight goals to earn the win. Hernandez scored his first of the game at 62:54 on a through ball from Garrett Cooke (North Kingstown, RI) to cut the deficit to 2-1. At 64:28, Hernandez knotted the score at 2-2 when Chris Herrera (Flushing, NY) found him in transition for his 17th marker of the season.

Gonzalez gave the Dolphins the lead in the 78th minute on an unassisted goal when he finished a rebound for the eventual game winning tally. He added an insurance goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the game on another rebound. Yeshiva goalkeeper Joshua Pransky made a breakaway save, but Gonzalez was there to finish the rebound and send the Dolphins to their sixth victory of the season.

Mount Saint Vincent goalkeeper James Green (Waldwick, NJ) made six saves in the contest, while Pransky turned away 18 shots for Yeshiva.

For the game, the Dolphins held the advantage in shots at 36-13 and in corner kicks at 8-3. Each team was offside three times in the contest and fouls were also even at 11 apiece.

Mount Saint Vincent stands at 6-11 on the season and closes out the Skyline slate with a 3-6 mark. The Dolphins will close out the season on Sunday, November 4 when they play at the Culinary Institute in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference Championship game.
