Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team edged Farmingdale State (11-4, 9-1) 73-68 on Saturday.
Koerner shot 7-15 from the floor in the contest, including 4-8 from behind the three-point arc. The sophomore also was a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line on her way to her 25 points. In the second half, Koerner shot .500 from the field and knocked down three of her four three-pointers and all seven of her free-throws.
The Dolphins opened their largest lead of the game, 10 points at 60-50, with 6:21 left in the contest on a jumper in the paint from sophomore Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY). The Rams would chip away and get the deficit to three points at 71-68, on a three-pointer from Dankery Perez with just eight seconds remaining. Koerner would put the game away with five ticks remaining when she knocked down a pair of free-throws to send the Mount to its fourth straight win.
Heesemann posted 16 points in the tilt on 6-13 shooting from the floor and Ciara Clarke (Warwick, NY) posted 10 in the win. Senior Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) played all 40:00 in the game and converted nine points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, including four on the offensive side. Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, NY) also went the distance on Saturday and finished with eight points and five assists.
For the game, the Mount was 20-53 (.377) from the field, but shot 6-16 (.375) from long range. The Dolphins also converted 27 of 38 free-throws in the game.
The Dolphins forced 21 turnovers in the game and converted those into 23 points. The Mount held the edge in points in the paint on Saturday at 24-18, fast break points at 8-3 and bench points at 25-21.
The Rams were led by Kimberly Blakney who had 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The Mount defense held Farmingdale to just over 30-percent shooting overall in the game and just 24-percent from three-point range.
The win moves the Mount to 12-3 overall and to 9-2 in league play. The Dolphins will return to Hayes Gymnasium for a Skyline contest with Old Westbury on Tuesday, January 29. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
