DiNizo scores career-high 29 points, Bucci nets double-double as Women’s Basketball rolls over CNR, 81-44 in regular season finale

Dolphins explode for 48 second half points, finish regular season 7-15, 4-1 HVWAC

(Bronxville, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball seniors Andrea DiNizo (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Masters) and Laura Bucci (Irvington, NY/Our Lady of Victory) entered their final career regular season game on Saturday hoping to make it a day to remember. 40 minutes later, both lived up to their hopes and then some, having enjoyed one of the finest performances of their outstanding careers. Against the College of New Rochelle, DiNizo scored a career-high 29 points, and Bucci netted her fourth career double-double with 10 points and a season-high 11 assists as the Dolphins routed CNR, 81-44 during a game played at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. With the win, the Mount finishes the regular season with a 7-15 overall record, including a 4-1 mark in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC). The Dolphins will be the #2 seed in next week's HVWAC playoffs.

CNR gave the Mount all they could handle during the early going as the Dolphins led 15-13 with 11:54 remaining in the first half. At that point, the Mount blew the game wide open with a 10-0 run, and led 33-19 at halftime. The Dolphins carried the momentum into the second half, enjoying a 22-0 run during a five-minute span to turn the game into a rout. The Mount outscored CNR 48-25 over the final 20 minutes as DiNizo scored 18 points during that span. The Dolphins shot 59% for the game, and outrebounded the Blue Angels 52-39. Senior Lauren DeRosa (Hawthorne, NY/Westlake HS) grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mount, and sophomore Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine's) added 10.

Also enjoying big games for Mount Saint Vincent were sophomore Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) who had 14 points, eight assists, and four steals, while freshman Drew Gomes (Thomaston, CT/Thomaston HS) added 13 points and six assists.

Mount Saint Vincent will await the pairing for the HVWAC playoffs which are expected to be announced as early as Tuesday. The HVWAC Quarterfinals will be played on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the highest seeds, with the Semifinals and Finals being played on Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 19, respectively, at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
