Dolphins to post double-figures and finished the night with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The moment came at the 11:16 mark of the first half off an inbounds play under the basket. Heesemann received the pass and laid the ball in for the milestone. She went on to shoot 6-14 from the floor in the game and pulled down six of the team's 16 offensive rebounds. She also added an assist and two steals on the night. Through 71 games including tonight, Heesemann has scored 1,009 points and pulled down 591 rebounds.
Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) opened the scoring on a jumper with 18:42 left in the first half, before Old Westbury's Samantha Johnson would nail a three to push the visitors in front 3-2 with 18:24 left. After the Johnson three the teams would go scoreless for nearly two and a half minutes, before Ashley Farrow (Ocean, N.J.) converted a jump shot to make it 4-3 Mount Saint Vincent with 15:46 left before the intermission.
The teams would exchange the lead for much of the half, until a Lauren Perocdani (Staten Island, N.Y.) three pointer broke a 30-30 tie with 1:53 left before the break. A Kerry O'Connor (Bethpage, N.Y.) layup and a Heesemann jumper would give the Dolphins a four point edge heading into the half.
The Dolphins never trailed in the second half and opened a lead as large as 22 points with 6:37 left in the contest. The closest that the Panthers would be able to get would be the final ten point deficit after a three from just inside half court by Kayla Lewis as the horn sounded.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent shot 45.1-percent from the floor and 39.1-percent from beyond the arc. The Mount defense held Old Westbury to 37-percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers, resulting in 27 points.
Percodani led all Mount Saint Vincent scorers with 17 points, highlighted by 5-6 shooting from distance. The point total is just two shy of her career-high which was set nearly one year ago today on January 29, 2008 against the same Old Westbury team. She also handed out six assists and swiped four steals for the Dolphins.
Freshman Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) finished with 16 points and three assists, while Koerner posted 12 points to go along with five rebounds and three helpers. Farrow also had a solid outing, posting six points and pulling down 11 rebounds, just one off of her career-best.
Old Westbury (10-6, 6-3 Skyline) was led by Johnson who had 35 points on 11-26 shooting from the field and 11-18 shooting from the charity stripe. Pamela Robinson chipped in with 15 points, while Shameeka Bryan finished with eight points and six assists.
The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent back to the .500 mark overall at 8-8 and to 7-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Mount is a trip to Troy, N.Y. for a Saturday matinee with Sage. Tip-off with the Gators is set for 2:00 p.m.
