Dolphins dominant during 99-42 Women’s Basketball win over Yeshiva

1/31/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Sophomore Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) came within a hair of a quadruple-double, fellow sophomore Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine’s) added a double-double, and five Dolphins scored in double digits as the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Basketball team exploded for a 99-42 win over Yeshiva on Tuesday night at Mount Saint Vincent. With their third win during the last four games, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 6-12 overall and 3-1 in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC).

(Riverdale, NY) – Sophomore Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) came within a hair of a quadruple-double, fellow sophomore Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine's) added a double-double, and five Dolphins scored in double digits as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team exploded for a 99-42 win over Yeshiva on Tuesday night at Mount Saint Vincent. With their third win during the last four games, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 6-12 overall and 3-1 in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC).

The game had all of the makings of a blow-out early as the Mount enjoyed a 16-0 run during the first eight minutes of play to take a commanding 18-2 lead. From there, the rout was on as the Dolphins led 53-15 at halftime and never looked back. The Mount dominated the game statistically, shooting 46% from the floor compared to Yeshiva's 26%, and the Dolphins enjoyed a 58-43 rebounding advantage, and forced 34 turnovers compared to their 12. The Mount held a 41-6 edge in points off turnovers, and scored 28 fast break points compared to zero for Yeshiva during their most dominant effort of the season. The 99 points was the most Mount Saint Vincent has scored in a game since a 94-27 win over Maritime College on Jan. 8, 2005.

Burud was incredible from the start as she scored a career-high 26 points, while chipping in 14 rebounds, seven assists, and eight steals. She shot 10 for 14 from the floor and was simply dominant on defense. Martinez also had an outstanding night as she scored 12 points while grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds.

Also for the Mount, senior Laura Bucci (Irvington, NY/Our Lady of Victory) scored a season-high 20 points and added eight assists, while fellow senior Andrea DiNizo (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Masters) added 19 points and five assists.

For Yeshiva (3-12, 0-3 HVWAC), senior Janna Almo (Seattle, WA/Northwest Yeshiva) had 13 points, while junior Rivke Pianko (Lawrence, NY/SKA) added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Mount Saint Vincent will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host Stevens for the front end of a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the game at 11:30 a.m., the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball Alumni Game will take place in the Grace Athletics Center.
