Burud’s triple-double leads Mount Saint Vincent past Purchase

Senior posts 15 points, 10 rebounds, 11 steals

shooting to go along with 10 rebounds and 11 steals. Burud was one of three Dolphins to record double-figures in the game, as Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY) and Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) each posted 17 points.

The Dolphins only made 16 field goals in the contest as opposed to 24 by Purchase. Mount Saint Vincent made up the difference by outscoring the Panthers by 18 points at the free-throw line. Mount Saint Vincent made 14 more free-throws then Purchase attempted in the game. Heesemann went 13-16 from the line with a dozen of her makes coming in the second half.

The game was tightly contested from the start, as the lead changed eight times and the scored was tied on seven occasions. The Dolphins largest lead of the game was six points, a pair of times in the first half. After jumping out 29-23 with 4:16 left in the half on a lay-up from Burud, Purchase closed the half on a 10-1 run to take a 33-30 advantage into halftime.

Koerner led the Mount with 12 points in the opening period, as the Dolphins shot .385 overall from the floor. Burud finished the frame with eight points, five rebounds and seven steals.

Burud would give the Dolphins the lead back with 18:08 left on a lay-up, before a Jessica Domes jumper pushed the Panthers back in front 39-37 with 14:20 left in regulation. Purchase would open a six point lead, at 56-50, with 5:17 left when Jennifer Danio buried a three. The Dolphins would reel off six straight points capped by a pair of Heesemann free-throws with just under three minutes left. Purchase would not give the lead up until just 43 seconds remained, when Lauren Perocdani (Staten Island, NY) nailed a three-pointer to push the Dolphins ahead 62-61. Heesemann would seal the win with a pair of foul shots with 10 ticks left to send the Dolphins to victory.

Overall, the Mount shot just .308 from the floor and just .167 from long range. Mount Saint Vincent converted 29-42 free-throws in the contest and out-rebounded the Panthers 42-37.

Percodani finished the game with seven points and three assists, while Heesemann pulled down eight rebounds. Burud's 10 rebounds and 11 steals each proved to be game-highs as she went the distance, playing all 40 minutes.

Danio led Purchase with a game-high 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds, which matched a game-high. Shayla Diaz recorded a game-high five assists, as Purchase shot .414 overall from the floor. The Panthers were just 11-15 from the charity stripe in the contest.

The Dolphins close the regular season with a 20-5 record and a 14-4 mark in Skyline play. Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action on Tuesday, February 26 when it hosts Old Westbury in the quarterfinal round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. Tip-off with the sixth seeded Panthers is set for 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
