Dolphins advance to HVWAC Championship with semifinal win over Yeshiva

Kaitlin Burud was one of two Dolphins to record a double-double on Saturday.
71-40 win over Yeshiva in the semifinal round of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament. Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) led the team in scoring on the night with 19 points.

Koerner shot 7-11 from the floor in the contest, including 4-6 from long range to reach her game-high 19. Burud followed with 17 points on the night, shooting 7-15 from the floor and 3-4 from the free-throw line. Heesemann rounded out the trio in double-figures with 14 points as she was an efficient 5-9 from the field and 4-6 from the charity stripe.

Heesemann recorded her eighth double-double of the season on Saturday after grabbing a game-high 11 boards. Burud pulled down 10 in the contest, while Ashley Farrow finished with six. Kerry O'Connor (Bethpage, NY), Ciara Clarke (Warwick, NY) and Maureen Carey (Belle Harbor, NY) all finished the game with five rebounds. Clarke also finished with a game-high six assists in the tilt, while Burud swiped six steals.

For the game, the Dolphins shot .415 (27-65) overall and .333 (4-12) from behind the arc. The team also shot .765 (13-17) from the free-throw line in the contest. The Mount held a huge advantage on the glass in the game, out-rebounding Yeshiva 59-34 including 17-7 on the offensive side.

The Mount defense held the Maccabees to just .226 (12-53) shooting overall and just .100 (1-10) from three point range. The Dolphins' defense forced 29 turnovers in the contest and translated those into 29 points.

The win improves the Mount's record to 17-5 overall on the season and moves it into tomorrow's HVWAC Championship game against the College of Saint Elizabeth. Tip-off at Hayes Gymnasium for the league crown is set for 4:00 p.m
