Women's Basketball ends 2006 with 75-37 win over Yeshiva to improve to 2-0 in HVWAC play

Heesemann, Burud net double-doubles as Dolphins open up 43-12 halftime lead; MSV improves to 5-2

(New York, NY) - Freshman Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park HS) and junior Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) notched double-doubles and 10 different players scored points as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team closed 2006 with a 75-37 rout of Yeshiva University on Tuesday night during a game played at Baruch College. With the win, the Mount enters the holiday break with a 5-2 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) play.

Mount Saint Vincent left little doubt from the opening jump-ball, outscoring the Lady Macs 20-2 during the first 5:48, and the Mount never looked back. The Dolphins led by as many as 38 points during the first half, and led 43-12 at halftime. Yeshiva battled back during the second half, and an 11-3 Lady Mac run during the middle of the second half made it 57--28, but the game would get no closer as the Mount responded with a 16-5 run to put the game completely out of reach. Mount Saint Vincent shot 35% from the floor - compared to Yeshiva's 25% - and grabbed 62 rebounds while Yeshiva had 50. The Dolphins also forced 32 Yeshiva turnovers, while committing only 16.

Individually, Heesemann and Burud had the hot hands throughout the game as Heesemann scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and added a career-high three blocked shots, while Burud scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds and five steals. The double-doubles were Heesemann's fourth of the season and Burud's second straight. Junior Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine's) and sophomore Ashley Farrow (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township HS) each added 10 rebounds, while freshman Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) chipped in a career-high nine assists.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, January 2 when they travel to NYU for a 5:00 p.m. start. The Violets were ranked #15 in the nation in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division III Women's Basketball poll.
