Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) became the third active member of the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team to score 1,000 career points. She finished the night with six tallies and five rebounds as the Dolphins won their sixth straight contest.
Percodani came into the game needing just one point for the magic number and got the Dolphins on the board in the opening two minutes with a jumper to bring the Mount to within a point at 3-2. Her bucket sparked a 13-2 run for the Dolphins that saw them jump out to a 13-5 edge five minutes into the tilt.
Kerry O'Connor (Bethpage, N.Y.) knocked down back-to-back buckets, including a triple, to push the Mount Saint Vincent led to double figures in the middle part of the first half and the Dolphins would not have their lead fall below seven points the remainder of the period, as they took a 41-28 lead into halftime.
CCNY shot better from the floor in the first half then did Mount Saint Vincent, converting on 50-percent of its field goal opportunities compared to 43.2-percent for the Dolphins. The Mount did knock five more three pointers in the half to earn the advantage. Senior Jill Brady (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) led all scorers at the intermission with 12 points.
The Beavers opened the second half on a 16-5 run to slice the Mount Saint Vincent down to just two with 14:43 to play in the contest. The Dolphins would hold onto the lead until the 6:43 mark when a lay-in from Taryn VanEsselstyn pushed CCNY out front 61-60.
The two teams would trade the lead over the next two possessions before the Mount gained the advantage for good on the night following a Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) three pointer off a feed from Percodani with 4:27 left in regulation. The Dolphins would then go on to score 10 of the final 15 points to secure the 10 point win.
Percodani finished the night 3-for-5 from the floor and also ripped down three rebounds to go along with her five helpers. She now joins Koerner and Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) as current Dolphins in the 1,000 point club at Mount Saint Vincent.
Brady led the Mount with 20 points on 6-for-13 shooting, including three of the Mount's 10 triples. She also handed out two assists and secured a pair of rebounds. Brady was joined in double-figures on the night by Koerner with 13 and Ciara Clarke (Warwick, N.Y.) and O'Connor who each finished with 11 points.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 16-8 overall on the season heading into the regular season finale on Wednesday night. The Dolphins will host Bard on Senior Night when the five members of this season's graduating class will be recognized before the game. Tip-off with the Raptors is set for 7:00 p.m.
