Lauren DeRosa (Hawthorne, NY/Westlake HS) scored a team-high 10 points, and
Meagan Fitzpatrick (Yonkers, NY/Our Lady of Victory) added five points and a team-high eight rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team opened the 2005-06 season with a 64-46 loss to Hunter College during the opening round of the Hunter College Tip-off Tournament. The Dolphins will now face Clarkson tomorrow in the Consolation Game at 1:00 p.m.
Mount Saint Vincent went toe-to-toe with the host Hawks during the first 20 minutes, and trailed 28-23 at halftime. However, the Dolphins struggled to shoot during the second half of play and allowed Hunter to pull away. The Mount shot 30% from the floor, converting only 17 of their 56 field goal attempts. Otherwise, the Dolphins played the CUNY powerhouse very close, as they were outrebounded only 35-34, and they committed only 18 turnovers – compared to Hunter's 17.
Mount Saint Vincent was also led by freshman Ashley Farrow (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township HS), who scored eight points during her first collegiate game.
