Dolphins hold on for 81-79 win over Centenary

ith 12:50 left to tie the score at 18-18. The score would be tied five times in the half, before the Mount opened at 46-37 lead at the half on a three pointer from Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) at the buzzer.

The Dolphins shot 19-44 from the field in the opening 20:00, including knocking down three of eight from behind the arc. The Mount went 5-6 from the charity strip in the opening frame and held a 25-17 edge in rebounds at the break.

The Dolphins opened the second half with a jumper from Charlton to expand the lead to 11 with 19:34 left in regulation. The lead would expand to a game-high 17 points when freshman Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) gave the Mount a 61-44 lead with 16:12 left in the half.

From the time of Johnson's jumper, the Cyclones went on to score 35 of the next 55 points to close within two points with just over 2:00 left in the contest. The run was keyed by William Atkinson, who scored 19 of his game high 28 points in the second half. He knocked down five triples in the half, including his last with 3:56 left to cut the Dolphin lead to 79-77.

Rocco put down a jump shot with 3:40 left to give the Dolphins a four point advantage, as they would hold on for their second win of the season. Rocco was a force all over the floor on Tuesday, with his 20 points, two blocks and he also added an assist. He also grabbed six rebounds on the night.

Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 13 points on the night to go along with five rebounds and a pair of assists. Cooke posted 12 points to go along with four boards.

For the contest, the Dolphins shot 34-83 (.410) from the field, including 4-12 (.333) from three. The Mount shot 9-13 (.692) from the charity stripe. For the game, the Dolphins held the advantage in rebounds at 49-37, including a 26-10 advantage on the offensive glass.

The wins moves Mount Saint Vincent to 2-1 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back on the hardwood on November 28 when they take on their Bronx rival Lehman. The contest is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
