in overtime on Saturday in the consolation game of the Gordon Tip-Off Tournament. Cooke was one of four players to record double figures on his way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
A back-and-forth affair throughout, the game featured e ight ties and nine lead changes before the Dolphins pulled out the win. A jumper from Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY) with 7:16 left to go in the first half, gave the
Mount a seven point advantage. That lead marked the largest lead of the period.
Both teams shot better then 50 percent in the opening 20:00, with the Dolphins converting 16-31 (.516) from the field and Alfred going 14-26 (.538). Cooke finished the first frame with 11 points and went 3-3 from long range to help the Mount to a 39-37 advantage at the break.
In the second half, the Dolphins opened a 10 point lead with 1:40 remaining in regulation before Alfred stormed back to even the score, finishing the half on a 13-3 run. Mount Saint Vincent went ahead 89-87 with 23 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws from Johnson. Alfred knotted the scored with just 16 second remaining on a lay-up from Jon Maroney, sending the game to overtime.
Mount Saint Vincent grabbed the lead six seconds into the extra period on free throws from Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ) and would not give it up. Alfred's Carl Embury knocked down a three pointer at the horn with the Dolphins up four to make the final score 102-101.
Cooke led all scorers in the game with 31 points, as he also recorded two assists, two rebounds and a steal. Chris Rocco (Saugerties, NY) chipped in 15 points and five rebounds and Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY) and Johnson finished with 13 points each. Charlton grabbed a game-high 10 rebound and swiped a team-high three steals.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent went 35-68 (.515) from the field, including 6-20 (.300) from behind the three point arc. The Dolphins shot just over 83 percent from the foul line, converting 25 of 30 free throws.
At 1-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Vincent will open its home schedule on Tuesday, November 20. The Dolphins will square-off with Centenary at 5:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
