Dolphins close out season with road win at Purchase

posted a career-high 27 points for the Mount and led five players in double-figures.

Johnson knocked down six three-pointers in the contest, four of which came in the first half. His first triple of the afternoon pushed the Dolphins ahead 3-2 just under a minute into the contest. The Mount would need all four of them in the first frame, as the lead changed 17 times in the first 20:00, with the Dolphins holding a 38-35 lead at the half.

Johnson finished the half with 14 points to lead all scorers and also pulled down a pair of rebounds. Overall the Dolphins shot .467 from the floor, including an impressive .417 from behind the three-point arc. Johnson was the only Mount player to finish the half with double figures, while Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) finished the frame with six rebounds to go along with nine points.

After Purchase jumped ahead by a point on a three-pointer from Tyriq Harrington with 16:48 left in regulation, the Dolphins used a quick seven point spurt to jump ahead 51-45 with 15:14 left in the contest. The run was capped by a three-pointer from Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) and it gave the Mount a lead it would give up the rest of the contest.

The Dolphins pushed the lead to 10 points with just over 13:00 left on a pair of free-throws from Johnson. Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY/Fordham Prep) would give Mount Saint Vincent its largest lead of the game, 18 points at 74-56, with a three-pointer with 8:14 remaining in the tilt. The lead would remain in double-figures until Purchase closed to within seven points with 1:04 left on a three from Harrington. The Panthers would get as close as six points on a lay-up from Chris Evangelista with 28 ticks left, but free-throws from Johnson and Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Archbishop, NY) pushed the Mount lead to the final 93-85 advantage.

Mount Saint Vincent shot .475 in the contest, including a red-hot .429 from three-point land. The Dolphins held a 39-36 edge in rebounding on the afternoon, leading to a 16-9 edge in second chance points. The contest saw the game tied on two occasions and the lead change 21 times.

Johnson reached his career mark in points after shooting 6-12 overall and from three-point land. He also went 9-13 from the free-throw line and pulled down five rebounds. Cooke finished with 22 points on 8-16 shooting and knocked down four treys for the Dolphins. Charlton finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Kyle Byrons (Goshen, NY/Burke Catholic) and Kenny Widgeon (Plainfield, NJ/The Hotchkiss School) each finished with 10 points. Byrons also pulled down nine rebounds and led the team in assists with four.

Harrington led four Purchase players in double-figures with a game-high 28 points and posted a game-high seven assists. Kazeem Famuyide recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Dolphins close out the season with an overall record of 9-16 and a 6-12 mark in Skyline Conference play.
