Carson Miller (New Oxford, Pa.) leading the way with a game-high 20 points and a career best 15 rebounds.
Miller finished the contest 7-14 from the floor for the Mount and dropped in six of his nine free throw attempts in the game. He scored 10 points in each half, but nine of his 15 rebounds and three of his four offensive grabs came in the final 20 minutes.
The Dolphins jumped out to a quick six point lead on Tuesday night, but Sage rebounded and used a 12-5 run over a four minute stretch to pull in front by 10 with 4:31 left before the intermission. The Mount responded in kind over the final four-plus minutes and scored the final six points of the period to close to within 41-37 at halftime.
Sage shot just over 42-percent in the first half, but the Mount dropped in six threes to just two for the Gators to stay within four at the break. Marcus Hunter scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the first period on 4-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 5-5 performance from the charity stripe.
The Dolphins quickly cut the Gator lead to one after the break on a Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, N.Y.) triple and took the in the contest on a Miller lay-in just over a minute later. From that point the Dolphins scored 12 of the next 14 points, capped by a Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jumper to push the Mount in front by a game-high 11 points at 54-43.
The Gators would get to within three points with 11:03 left to play on a pair of Alex King free-throws and would come back to knot the score at 73-73 on a Mason Horne layup with 2:59 left, but the Mount defense held Sage to just field goal the rest of the contest.
Over the final 2:59, Mount Saint Vincent converted 7-8 from the free throw line to secure the win. The difference in the contest came at the stripe and in second chance opportunities as the Dolphins outscored the Gators 21-16 for the game and 14-5 in the second half from the line and 14-3 in second chance points.
Joining Miller in double-figures on Tuesday were Johnson and Nick DiMaggio (Croton, N.Y.) who finished with 17 and 16 points. The duo combined to knock down eight of the Dolphins nine triples in the tilt and the trio of Johnson, DiMaggio and Miller combined for 17 of the Mount's 26 field goals. Johnson also pulled in eight rebounds.
Cunningham continued his steady season with eight points and four assists, while Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a career best six helpers. Pat Panetta (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) grabbed seven rebounds for the Mount and he and Johnson each swiped three steals.
Sage placed five in double-figures with King posting a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. King and Ryan Harris each handed out four assists and Hunter finished with a game-high four steals to go along with his 15 points.
The win improves the Mount's overall record to 5-3 on the season and evens its Skyline mark at 2-2. The Dolphins will return home to the Sharp Center on Thursday night when they host St. Joseph's-L.I. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Post Game Notes: Tuesday was the first game all season the Mount Saint Vincent bench was outscored…Sage is the fourth straight team to shoot better then 40-percent against the Mount…It marked the 93rd straight game the Dolphins have converted a three pointer.
