Dolphins drop road contest at Yeshiva

Cooke leads the way with 21 points

NEW YORK, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team dropped a hard fought 63-55 decision at Yeshiva on Wednesday evening. Junior Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY/Fordham Prep) led three Dolphins in double-figures with 21 points in the contest.

In a back and forth affair that featured 12 ties and 15 lead changes, the Dolphins found themselves ahead by a point at 30-29 heading into halftime. Cooke scored 12 of his 21 in the opening period on 5-8 shooting and knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Overall in the half the Dolphins shot .444 from the field and .455 from three-point range.

The Maccabees would come out and outscore the Mount by nine in the second frame to steal the win. Zachary Gordon scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the second period, keyed by making 11 of 15 free-throws.

Joining Cooke in double-figures on the night were Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) who each netted 10 points. Johnson and Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) paced the Mount on the glass, as each pulled down seven rebounds.

Overall in the game the Dolphins shot .400 from the field and .318 from behind the arc. The Mount struggled from the free-throw line in the tilt, converting just four of its 12 chances.

The loss drops the Dolphins to 8-16 overall on the season and to 5-12 in the Skyline Conference. With the loss the Dolphins were eliminated from making the Skyline Conference Tournament. Mount Saint Vincent will close out the campaign on Saturday with a road tilt at Purchase. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
