Men’s Basketball Falls To Farmingdale State On Senior Day

posted a team-high 28 points for the Dolphins on senior day at Hayes Gymnasium.

A tightly contested first half featured runs by each team that resulted in six ties and 12 lead changes. After the Rams scored the first five points on Saturday, Nick DiMaggio (Croton, N.Y.) canned back-to-back three pointers to push the Mount in front 6-5 early in the contest. After a Cooke triple gave the Mount the lead back at 11-10 just under five minutes into the game, the two teams would trade the lead until a 10-0 run by the Dolphins gave them a game-high nine point lead with 3:58 left before halftime.

The Rams would respond by closing the half on a 16-2 spurt to take a 44-39 advantage into the intermission. The run was keyed by six points from Mike Campbell who finished half with a double-double, posting 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Dolphins knocked down seven three pointers in the opening period to just four for the Rams. The Dolphins turned the ball over nine times in the first half which led to 16 points for the Rams. Farmingdale State also held a 24-10 edge on the glass in the half and a 20-6 advantage in points-in-the-paint.

Farmingdale State would not trail in the second half and pushed its lead to double-figures on a Daniel Phillips jumper with 14:08 left to play. The Rams' lead would balloon to 20 points on a Damien Santana triple  with 9:29 left and a game-high 26 points twice late in the contest.

Cooke scored 13 of his 28 in the second half and DiMaggio knocked down four threes in the period on his way to 16 points. The Dolphins shot a solid 45.7-percent from the floor in the second half, but Farmingdale State was red hot, knocking down 62.5-percent of its field goal opportunities.

Overall in the game, the Rams shot 56.2-percent (41-73) from the floor and knocked in seven three-pointers. Campbell finished the game 12-17 from the floor and 6-9 from the free-throw line on his way to a game-high 31 points. He also posted 15 rebounds and handed out a pair of assists. He was one of five Rams in double-figures with Santana chipping in 20 points, six assists and four steals. dd

Cooke finished up 11-17 from the floor and 3-6 from long range on his way the team-high point total. He also swiped three steals and handed out an assist. DiMaggio knocked down six threes and posted 24 points and three assists for the Mount, while Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, N.Y.) finished with 15 points off the bench.

Farmingdale State owned the glass on Saturday, finishing with a 48-22 advantage overall and an 18-7 edge on the offensive end. The Rams doubled up the Dolphins in second chance points at 20-10 and had a 56-18 advantage in points-in-the-paint.

The loss was the Mount's sixth straight league loss and its seventh loss in its last six games overall. The Dolphins close out the regular season with a 12-13 overall record and a 9-9 mark in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday at Maritime for a Skyline Conference Tournament Quarterfinal match-up. Tip-off with the Privateers is set for 7:00 p.m.
