RIVERDALE, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team dropped its second straight decision with a 100-80 loss at the hands of Old Westbury on Tuesday night. Senior captain

Freshman Kenny Widgeon tied for a team-high 13 points on Tuesday.

Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) was one of five Dolphins in double-figures, as he recorded his eighth double-double of the season.

The Dolphins held their only lead of the contest 23 seconds in when freshman Kenny Widgeon (Plainfield, NJ/The Hotchkiss School) grabbed an offensive rebound and finished the put back for an early 2-0 lead. Old Westbury would reel off a quick seven points, capped by a three-pointer from Eddie Hood with 17:22 left in the half to give the Panthers a 7-2 edge.

Old Westbury would push its lead to 10 points with 11:46 left in the first half on a lay-up from Brandon Mays. The Dolphins would close the half with a jumper from Widgeon with one second remaining to cut the deficit to 40-31, but that would be as close as the Mount would get the rest of the night.

Widgeon and Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) led the team with 13 points each in the game, while Kyle Byrons (Goshen, NY/Burke Catholic) and Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY) finished up with 12 points apiece. Charlton finished the night with 10 points and posted a game-high 14 rebounds in the contest. Johnson led the team with three assists on the night.

Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) came off the bench to score nine points and chip in nine rebounds. Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY/Fordham Prep) contributed eight points in the game and pulled down a pair of rebounds.

For the game, the Dolphins shot .448 from the floor, but just .200 from long range. They were outscored in the paint 54-34 on the night and 26-4 on the fast break. Bench scoring was also in favor of Old Westbury at 52-25 and the Panthers turned 23 Mount Saint Vincent turnovers into 29 points.

Old Westbury was led by Garthlette James who finished with 23 points, while Mays finished the night with 21. The Panthers had three players record at least three assists, led by Ian Johnson with four.

The loss drops the Mount to 7-11 overall on the season and to 4-7 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Maritime to Hayes Gymnasium. Tip-off with the Privateers is set for noon.
