Dolphins End Skid With Non-Conference Triumph At Staten Island

season-long four game losing streak with an 88-84 road win at the College of Staten Island on Tuesday. The victory moves the Mount to 12-11 overall on the season.

Cooke finished the game 10-18 from the floor overall, including 7-12 from distance in the Dolphins first win since January 31 against Mount Saint Mary. In addition to his 29 points, the most points he has scored this season and just two off his career-high, Cooke handed out a pair of assists and pulled down a rebounds.

Cooke scored 14 of his point in the opening half on 5-11 shooting from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc as the Mount carried a 43-42 advantage into halftime. Mount Saint Vincent scored the first 10 points of the contest and led by as many 20 in the first half. Staten Island out scored the Mount 25-6 in the final 6:59 of the half to inch to within one point heading into the intermission.

Mount Saint Vincent shot 53.1-percent from the floor in the opening period and 42.9-percent from three-point range to carry the advantage. Staten Island shot just 13-33 from the floor in the first half, but converted 14-16 from the free-throw line against just 3-3 for the visiting Dolphins.

The second half started in nearly exact opposite fashion as the first, as Staten Island scored the first 12 points of the period. Mount Saint Vincent did not score a point until a Cooke triple with 16:21 left in regulation. The Mount methodically got back into the contest keyed by eight points in a minute and a half stretch by Nick DiMaggio (Croton, N.Y.) to get it back to within four with 12:55 left in the contest.

Eric Van Tine (Hawthorne, N.J.) converted a three-point play to get the Mount to within a point with 12:15 left and after a Ryan Hennessey bucket for Staten Island, Cooke knotted the score at 64 on a triple.

Staten Island would respond and run out to a seven point lead, before Cooke tied the score again on a three-point play with 6:23 left in the tilt. After a Hennessey triple put the home squad up by a point, the Dolphins closed the game with a 10-5 spurt to earn the win.

Mount Saint Vincent closed the game shooting 48.4-percent from the field and 42.9-percent (12-28) from distance. Staten Island finished at 44.8-percent from the floor, but knocked down half as many three-pointers as the Mount.

DiMaggio finished the game with 20 points for the Mount to go along with a game-high eight assists. He also swiped three steals and pulled down two rebounds. Matias Roibal (Booton, N.J.) scored nine points off the bench and collected a team-high eight rebounds. Pat Panetta (Ridgefield Park, N.J.), Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Van Tine all finished with eight points, with Panetta chipping in with four helpers and seven caroms.

Staten Island (6-19) was paced by Hennessey's 22 points and five assists. Anthony Tisi also had a solid outing with 20 points and eight boards. Jordan Young finished the game with 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

At 12-11 the Dolphins will close out the regular season with a road game at Old Westbury on Wednesday night and a home contest with Farmingdale St. on February 21. Tip-off for the season finale on Saturday is slated for 1:00 p.m.
