Dolphins Open Sharp Center With Win Over Lehman

new Peter Jay Sharp Center. Miller was one of three Dolphins to finish in double-figures as Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Nick DiMaggio (Croton, N.Y.) netted 19 and 11 points respectively.

The two teams struggled to score for the first 10:00 of the contest until the Dolphins closed with eight of the final 12 points of the period to take a 37-26 lead into the intermission. Miller and Johnson led the way at the break with eight points apiece, as the Dolphins converted 53.6-percent of their field goal opportunities.

Mount Saint Vincent would extend its lead to 12 on a DiMaggio triple with 18:13 left in regulation for its biggest lead of the night. Although the Dolphins would never surrender the lead, Lehman would chip away at its deficit and climbed to within three points at 68-65 on a Mathias Raggiotto triple with 1:39 left in the second half. The big blow in the final minutes was a deep three from Johnson to give the Mount a six point edge with 40 ticks left in the contest.

The Mount would build its lead back up to eight points in the final half minute, but after missing three free throws in four attempts and a Xavier Garven three-point goal, Lehman had drawn to within two points with eight second left. Johnson would convert a foul shot and a fast break layup with two seconds left to secure the win.

Miller carried the Dolphins in the second half, going 6-7 from the floor and pouring in 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second frame. He also pulled down eight rebounds for the Mount in the second half. Johnson went 3-5 from the floor and 2-2 from distance in the final stanza for an 11 point effort.

Johnson finished the game 6-11 from the floor overall and 4-6 from behind the arc. He also finished with a game-high five assists to go along with a pair of rebounds. James Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with six boards for the Mount and Pat Panetta (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) turned in a solid effort with five points, four rebounds and three helpers.

The Dolphins shot an even 50-precent from the floor (29-58) and 35-percent (7-20) from long distance in the contest. The difference in the game came on the glass where the Mount held a 47-38 edge and from the free-throw line where Lehman missed on eight opportunities.

The Lightning were paced in the contest by Garvin who finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. He was 8-18 from the floor overall, but just 3-7 from the free-throw line. He also tied fore the team lead with four assists.

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 1-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on December 1 when they host Skyline rival Yeshiva. Tip-off at the Sharp Center is slated for 8:00 p.m.
