Dolphins Drop Season Opener At Lehman

figures on the night with sophomore Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY) scoring a team-high 16 and freshman Randy Battle (Bronx, NY) chipping in with 13 for the Mount.

The Dolphins struggled from the floor on Tuesday with five players combining to go 14-48 from the field. For the game, the Mount shot just 28.6-percent from the floor and just 23.5-percent (4-17) from three point range. Mount Saint Vincent would finish the game shooting 65.4-percent from the charity stripe in the loss.

The Dolphins held the lead just one time in the contest after a Nick DiMaggio (Croton, NY) free throw in the first minute of the contest. The score would be tied on three occasions in the opening period, but Mount Saint Vincent could not get passed the Lightning.

After shooting just over 32-percent from the floor in the first period, the Dolphins found themselves down just five at the half. The Lightning would go on to shoot nearly 40-percent in the second half and would open its largest lead of the game at 18 points with just under 5:30 left to play in regulation. The Mount would climb to within 14 twice in the final five minutes, but could not get any closer.

Lehman was led by three players in double-figures on the night, including Jameson Garcia who poured in a game-high 19 points on 7-13 shooting. Garcia also collected a game-high nine rebounds for the Lightning, who improved to 1-1 on the season.

Battle had an impressive first game for the Dolphins as he went 5-12 from the floor and converted 3-4 from the foul line to reach 13 points. He also matched the team-high along with junior co-captain Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY) with six rebounds. Johnson came off the bench to go 3-6 from the floor overall, 3-5 from long distance and 7-11 from the foul line. Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY) netted seven points in the game for the Dolphins, with Lastres scoring six in the season opener.

The Dolphins turned the ball over 14 times in the game which led to 12 Lehman points. Lehman also used a 41-31 advantage on the boards, including a 10-6 edge on the offensive glass to score 20 points in the paint.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-1 overall on the young season. The Dolphins will return to action on Friday night at Hamilton in their first game of the Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament. The game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Clinton, NY.
