Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY) led four Dolphins in double-figures with 14 points on the night.
After Purchase scored 11 of the first 12 points of the contest, the Mount stormed back with a 15-4 run to pull ahead by one point with 9:23 left in the opening half. The Dolphins extended the lead to double-figures at 29-19 with just over five minutes left in the period before the Panthers put together a 16-4 spurt in the final 4:26 to take a two point advantage at 37-35 into the intermission.
Overall the two teams struggled from the floor in the first half with Mount Saint Vincent shooting just 30.8-percent (12-39) overall and just 11.1-percent (2-18) from three point land. Purchase was slightly better from the floor overall at 38.7-percent (12-31) and knocked in three of its 10 three point attempts. The Panthers' Marvin Billups led all scorers in the frame with 19 points on 6-14 shooting from the floor.
Cooke opened the second half with a three-pointer to give Mount Saint Vincent the lead back at 38-37 with 18:43 left in regulation. Three free-throws from freshman Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, NY) would give the Mount it largest lead of the half at 41-37 with just under 18:00 left, before Purchase would take the lead for good just under a minute later.
A three-point play from Billups would give the home team a 42-41 advantage with 17:07 left and a pair of free-throws from Tyriq Harrington would push the lead to 10 points at 55-45 with 13:19 left in regulation time. The Panthers would pull away and take their largest lead of the contest at 22 points on a triple from Chad Charney with 6:22 remaining in the contest. The Dolphins would cut the deficit to 14 points late in the period, but Purchase canned five of six free-throws down the stretch to earn the final 19 point decision.
Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent shot just 32.4-percent (23-71) from the floor and 18.2-percent (6-33) from long range. Purchase was more efficient in the second period shooting 45.9-percent from the floor in the period and also 45.9-percent overall for the game. The Panthers also drained five triples in the game and went 36-47 from the free-throw line.
Cooke posted his 14 points on 5-10 shooting overall and also added a rebound and a steal. Nick DiMaggio (Croton, NY) and Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY) each finished the game with 11 points, with DiMaggio posting two assists and Johnson grabbing four rebounds. Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ) finished the night with 10 points off the bench to go along with six rebounds. Tyler Muer (Goshen, NY) finished with nine points and a team-high nine boards off the bench.
Purchase (7-4, 3-2 Skyline) was led by Billups who posted a double-double with 46 points and 13 rebounds. He shot 15-28 from the floor overall and 16-21 from the free-throw line. Harrington also had a strong outing, finishing with 28 points and seven boards. Wednesday marked the second straight game that the Mount has allowed an opposing player to eclipse 40 points as Polytechnic's Arjun Ohri finished with 41 on Saturday.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 7-6 overall on the season and to 5-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to Skyline Preseason favorite Farmingdale St. on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off with the Rams is set for 1:00 p.m.
