Dolphins fall on the road at Oglethorpe

Cooke, Widgeon lead Dolphins with eight points apiece

 ATLANTA, GA – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team dropped a 97-65 decision at Oglethrope on Saturday night as part of the Stormy Petrel Classic. Newcomers Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY/Fordham Prep) and Kenneth Widgeon (Plainfield, NJ/The Hotchkiss School) paced the Mount with eight points each. Freshman Matias Roibal (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) grabbed a team-high six rebounds for the Dolphins in the contest.

Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) contributed seven points in the contest, while senior captain Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) posted six points and grabbed five rebounds.

In the game, Widgeon and John Foreman (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) posted career-highs in points with eight and seven, respectively.

The Stormy Petrels put three players in double-figures on Saturday night, including Ahmad Kareem Shaheed who finished with a game-high 17 points on 7-8 shooting from the field.

For the game, the Dolphins shot 22-67 (.328) from the floor, including 6-15 (.400) from long range. The Mount assisted on just 10 of its baskets in the contest and each team turned the ball over 22 times.

Oglethorpe held the advantage in rebounds at 49-38 in the tilt, with Mount Saint Vincent holding the edge on the offensive boards 14-13. The Stormy Petrels held a 54-28 edge in points in the paint and a 28-12 advantage in second chance opportunities.

The loss is the Mount's fourth straight and drops the Dolphins to 2-5 overall on the season. Mount Saint Vincent will return to the floor tomorrow on day two of the classic against Christopher Newport at 6:00 p.m.
