Maritime sails past Mount Saint Vincent, 81-72

 THROGGS NECK, NY – Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 20 points and Justin Baylosi s (East Rockaway, NY/Archbishop Molloy) posted 16 points, but the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team was downed at Maritime on Saturday 81-72.

Maritime jumped out to a quick 17 point lead just under five minutes into the contest. The Privateers scored 19 of the first 21 points of the game and held a 24 point lead with just over seven minutes left in

the period. Maritime would hold a 48-34 lead at the intermission.

Garlan scored 12 of his 20 points in the first half, shooting 4-5 from the floor and from the free throw line. Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY/Fordham Prep) scored seven points in the half as the Mount shot 11-31 from the floor.

The Dolphins would cut the Maritime lead to eight points on a jumper from Baylosis with 13:24 remaining in regulation. The Privateers would run off the next five points to regain a 13 point lead. The Mount would get within eight points again with under a minute to play on a pair of free throws from Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam). Maritime would follow by knocking down a pair of its own to take the final nine point edge.

Baylosis scored 14 points in the final 20:00 on 5-10 shooting from the floor and a perfect 3-3 mark from the foul line.

Joining Garlan and Baylosis in double-figures on the afternoon was Kyle Byrons (Goshen, NY/Burke Catholic) who posted 11 points. Garlan also led the team with six rebounds on the day, but the Privateers held a commanding edge on the boards at 43-29.

The Mount shot 24-59 from the floor (.407), but made just two of 13 attempts from three-point land. The Dolphins scored 13 points off of 21 Privateer turnovers on the day and held the edge in bench points at 31-25.

The loss drops the Mount to 3-4 overall on the season and to 0-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be off until December 29 when they take place in the Olgethrope Tournament.
