Basketball team fell at Old Westbury 80-60. Johnson shot 4-7 from the field, including 2-4 from three-point range.
Old Westbury would hold the lead from the outset on Tuesday, jumping out to a 10 point lead with 12:19 to play in the opening period. The Panthers would open their largest lead of the half at 2
4-10 on a pair of free throws with 6:25 left in the frame. The Dolphins would get within eight points at the half, at 33-25, on free throws from
Kyle Byrons (Goshen, NY/Burke Catholic) with just under thirty seconds left.
In the first half, the Dolphins shot 25-percent (7-28) and converted 1-7 from behind the arc.
The Panthers would extend their lead to as many as 26 points in the second half, as they shot nearly 45-percent from the floor in the half. Cooke scored eight of his 12 points in the final period, as the Mount converted 14-40 from the floor.
Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Archbishop, NY) led the team in rebounds with four each, while Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ/St. Joseph's-Metuchen) posted a team high three steals in the game.
The Dolphins were held to just over 30-percent shooting in the contest (21-68) and shot just 3-18 from three-point land. The Panthers shot 32-72 from the floor and held a 54-28 advantage in rebounding, including a 23-14 edge on the offensive side.
The Panthers held a 48-30 edge in points in the paint and a 22-14 advantage in second chance points. The Dolphins bench scored 33 points in the contest against just 18 from Old Westbury's.
The loss drops the Mount to .500 on the year at 3-3 and to 0-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday, December 8 at Maritime. Tip-Off with the Privateers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
