Men’s Basketball Falls On The Road At Centenary

Cooke shot 9-12 from the floor in the contest, including 6-8 from long distance for the Dolphins. He was perfect from the field in the first half, going 4-4 overall and 3-3 from behind the arc. For the season, Cooke is shooting an impressive 53.6-percent (37-69) from three-point land.

The game was tight early as it featured eight ties and 12 lead changes. Mount Saint Vincent led by as many as 13 points on three occasions in the opening half, with the final time coming with 10:35 left in the period on a lay-up from sophomore Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ) that put the Mount in front 32-19. From there Centenary outscored Mount Saint Vincent 33-16 to end the half and take a 52-48 lead into halftime.

Rob Urie led the comeback for the Cyclones by scoring 24 points before halftime on perfect shooting from the field. Urie went 8-8 from the floor; including 5-5 from three pint land as Centenary shot a red-hot 62.1-percent from the floor as a team.

Mount Saint Vincent also shot the ball effectively in the opening period, knocking down 62.5-percent of its field goal attempts, but it was outscored by eight points at the foul line as the Cyclones went 9-15 from the charity stripe with the Dolphins converting just 1-3.

Cooke opened the second half by knocking down a pair of three-pointers as the Dolphins scored six of the first eight points of the frame to tie the score at 54-54. Mount Saint Vincent would build its largest lead of the second half at 62-57 on a three-pointer from newcomer Eric Van Tine (Hawthorne, NJ) with 15:48 remaining in regulation.

After swapping the lead over the next six minutes, Centenary took control of the game with 5:15 left as it pushed its lead to 11 points at 88-77 on lay-up from Urie. Over the final five plus minutes the Cyclones closed the game on a 14-2 run to hold off the Dolphins and earn the final 23 point decision.

Urie finished the contest with 32 points and missed just one field goal attempt on the night. He finished 10-11 overall and 5-6 from long range. He also finished 7-10 from the free-throw line and added three rebounds and a team-high five assists. Andrew Baker finished with a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Ryan Kearney and Will Atkinson posted 25 and 12 points respectively.


Centenary (5-4) finished the game shooting just over 64-percent from the field and outscored the Dolphins by 20 points from the free-throw line.

Van Tine finished his second contest with Mount Saint Vincent with 15 points in 18 minutes and Nick DiMaggio (Croton, NY) recorded 13 points along with a pair of assists. Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY) finished with seven points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Overall the Dolphins finished up shooting 48.5-percent from the floor and attempted just three free-throws in the game, going 1-3. Centenary connected on 21 of its 30 attempts in the game. The Cyclones also held a 37-24 on the glass on Monday and a 54-24 edge in points in the paint.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-5 overall on the season. The Dolphins will have a quick turnaround as they will host Skyline foe Maritime on Tuesday night. Tip-off with the Privateers is set for 8:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
