Dolphin defense caused 24 Valiant turnovers, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team lost to Skyline Conference-leading Manhattanville College, 97-54 on Wednesday night during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 1-16 and 0-9 in Skyline Conference play.

The game was selected as a Student Activities Night as they, along with the Board of Programmers, handed out free-tshirts, pom-poms and mega-phones to all in attendance!  In front of perhaps the largest and most rowdy crowd to witness a Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball game this season, the Dolphins opened the game on-fire, opening a 10-2 lead during the first 3:11. However, from there, Manhattanville methodically took over the game as an 11-0 run put the Valiants up 13-10 with 12:33 remaining in the first half. After the teams traded baskets for several minutes, an Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) bucket 10:19 remaining in the first half made it 17-16 Manhattanville, but that was as close as the game would be. The Valiants (13-4, 6-2 Skyline Conference) outscored the Mount 32-14 during the final 10 minutes of the opening stanza to lead 49-30 at the break.

The second half saw much of the same as Manhattanville enjoyed a terrific shooting night while the Mount struggled from the floor. Overall, the Valiants converted 55% of their field goal attempts while Mount Saint Vincent shot 33% from the floor, and the shooting disparity allowed Manhattanville to overcome a stingy defensive effort by the Dolphins, who forced 24 turnovers, while committing 22.

While the score was lop-sided, it failed to indicate the Mount's complete effort as the Dolphins not only enjoyed an edge in turnovers forced, but they also took 10 more shots than Manhattanville (70-60) and their hustle and determination did not cease. Every Dolphin scored at least one point.

Mount Saint Vincent now hits the road for three consecutive Skyline Conference games. The road trip begins on Saturday when Mount Saint Vincent travels to Old Westbury for a 4:00 p.m. start. The Dolphins return home on Feb. 5 for a 7:00 clash with Stevens.
