Vincent Men's Basketball team fell to 1-9 with an 82-74 loss to Union College during the opening round of the Sig Makofski Tournament at Union College on Friday night. The Mount will face Elms College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the consolation round and will look to break their eight-game losing streak.

Union came out smoking, outscoring the Mount 43-29 during the first half thanks to a 52% shooting performance, including an 8 for 15 half from outside of three-point range. The Dutchmen opened an 11-2 lead and then enjoyed two 8-0 runs to extend the lead during the first 20 minutes. Mount Saint Vincent shot 41% from the floor and committed 10 of their 18 turnovers from the first half.

The second half saw a total turnaround by the Dolphins as Mount Saint Vincent enjoyed one of their finest shooting halves of the year, converting 16 of their 27 second-half attempts, including a 5 for 8 performance from three-point range. Charlton scored 14 of his 26 points during the final 20 minutes, and freshman Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ/St. Joseph's-Metuchen) scored all eight of his points during the half as he did not miss a field goal attempt during the second half. The effort inspired the Dolphins to a 14-4 run midway through the second half to close the gap to 69-65 with 4:59 remaining. Charlton converted two free throw attempts with 2:23 remaining to make it 74-71, but Union scored eight of the game's final 11 points (including a 6 for 6 effort from the free throw line) to clinch the win.

Despite the loss, the second half marked the Mount's best effort of the season as the young Dolphins continue to adapt to the College game. 38 Mount Saint Vincent points were scored by freshmen, including Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy), who scored 10 points, and Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy), who added nine.
