history of the program en route to a second straight First Team All-Conference campaign. On Thursday night, the magic returned as on "Throwback Thursday" sophomore
Tim Biolsi (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) wore the same #11 jersey ... and played the best game of his young career. Biolsi's career-high 32 points paced the Mount, who went toe-to-toe with the Skyline Conference's #3 team, but unfortunately a terrific effort was not enough as Old Westbury raced out to a double-digit lead early and held off the Mount, 108-93 during Mount Saint Vincent's final home game of the 2006-07 season.
With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 3-21 overall and 1-14 in Skyline Conference play, but they made life difficult for a very good Old Westbury team.
Old Westbury (15-9, 11-4 Skyline Conference) raced out to a 6-0 lead, but the Mount quickly came back and took a 10-8 lead barely four minutes into the game. However, following the Mount's run, the Dolphins suffered their only lull of the game and allowed Old Westbury a 17-2 run over a four-minute span to make it 25-12, and the Panthers held firm for the rest of the game. But, the rest of the game was nearly a wash as Biolsi led the Dolphins to an inspired effort, connecting on 13 of his 24 shots and breaking 30 points for the first time. Biolsi wasn't the only one enjoying a solid night as junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond's) notched his eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Kevin Garlan (Jackson Heights, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Freshman Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan HS) also enjoyed a fine evening with a game-high nine assists.
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent outrebounded the Panthers 38-31 and forced 17 Panther turnovers, but Old Westbury shot 60% while the Mount shot only 47%, providing for the scoring disparity. At one point, Old Westbury converted 14 of their first 20 shots of the game, and six Panthers scored in double figures.
Mount Saint Vincent takes the court one more time this season when they travel to Farmingdale State for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday.
