Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team split a pair of Skyline Conference matches on Saturday afternoon, downing St. Joseph's-L.I. in five sets and then falling to Farmingdale St. in four sets. The Dolphins toppled the Eagles by set scores of 22-25, 26-24, 14-25, 25-20 and 15-12 before falling to the Rams by scores of 25-20, 18-25, 12-25 and 23-25.
Junior Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) had a strong day for the Dolphins totaling double-figures in kills in each match. Against St. Joseph's, she led the Dolphins with 13 winners and also posted two aces, eight digs and three total blocks. Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished off a strong match with nine kills and 22 defensive digs.
Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was solid all-around for the Dolphins in the win against the Eagles. She posted a match-high 28 assists and also totaled eight kills, 18 digs and two service aces. Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) lifted 33 digs for the Dolphins and Kaitlyn Gaynor (Island Park, N.Y.) chipped in with 14.
As a team the Dolphins hit .182 against St. Joseph's and lifted 112 digs. The Mount also posted seven total team blocks with Kallie Maglione (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) posting three to join Williams as the team leaders in the match.
Against Farmingdale St., Williams was again the lone Mount Saint Vincent player to reach double-figures in kills with 11. She posted a double-double against the Rams with 11 digs and also collected two more blocks. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) was also solid for the Dolphins with nine kills and seven digs.
Leonard handed out 20 more assists in the second match of the day and collected two more kills, two aces and a pair of digs. DeMasi closed out the afternoon with five kills and 13 digs for the Dolphins.
Reynes led all players in the match with 35 digs and was one of four Mount Saint Vincent players to post at least 10 in the match. She was joined by Williams, DeMasi and Gaynor who posted 10 to go along with a pair of kills.
The Rams were led by Holly Sahner who finished off 13 kills and Renee Milevoj who added 12. Lindsey Fisher finished up with a match-high 26 helpers for Farmingdale St., while Jessica Zimmerman led the way with 19 digs.
The split on Saturday moves Mount Saint Vincent to 10-7 overall in 2010 and to 4-3 in league matches. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday night when they travel to Bard for a league contest with the Raptors. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
