, N.Y. The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team came up just one goal short in a hard fought 2-1 loss at league rival Sage on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Ahmed Ajao (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored his first career goal for the Dolphins and junior Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, Conn.) made seven stops between the pipes.

 

After Evan Southworth gave Sage a 1-0 lead at the 34:54 mark of the match on his first goal of the season, Ajao quickly got the Dolphins even at 36:07 after bury a feed from Luis Alvarez to tie the score at 1-1. It was also Alvarez's first career point in the blue and gold for Mount Saint Vincent.

 

The score would remain tied at one goal apiece until Chris Catania pushed Sage in front with the eventual game winner in the 72nd minute. Catania picked up his second goal of the season after sliding a pass from Kris Kallenbach behind Mandujano.

 

The junior netminder for Mount Saint Vincent was again solid in making his seven stops on the day. In seven games this season he has not allowed more then two goals in a game and holds a 1.20 goals against average and a .750 save percentage. His counterpart from Sage, Carmen Volpe, made just one save in earning his fourth win of the season.

 

Shots in the contest were tough to come by as the Dolphins managed only three on the afternoon. Sage held the edge in the category 13-3, including a 3-0 advantage in the second half. Sage also held the advantage in corner kicks on Tuesday 6-1. In a physical, hard fought tilt the fouls were whistled 23-10 against the Dolphins.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent back below .500 overall on the season at 2-3-2 and to 1-2-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off with the Eagles is set for 1:00 p.m.
