Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Medgar Evers

, N.Y. In its final non-conference match of the season the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team posted a 3-0 sweep at Medgar Evers on Thursday night. The Dolphins won the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17. Sophomore setter Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) finished with 16 assists and junior libero Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y) lifted 20 digs.

 

Overall in the match Mount Saint Vincent hit .169 as a team, but posted a .353 hitting percentage in the opening set. In the opener the Dolphins collected nine of their 20 team kills and committed just three attack errors.

 

Junior Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) led the offensive charge for the Mount on Thursday with a match-high seven kills. She also contributed four defensive digs to the winning effort. Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) totaled four winners and MacBride and Kallie Maglione (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) finished off three each.

 

Maglione had a solid all-around night for Mount Saint Vincent as she also posted three digs and a match-high two total blocks against Medgar Evers. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) also picked up a block in the match to go along with three service aces.

 

MacBride led all players on Thursday night with her 16 assists, as she also picked up three digs and a total block. Reynes also posted the match-high in digs with her 20 and posted four of the Dolphins' nine service aces on the night.

 

Medgar Evers was led by Charita Henry who collected five kills and nine digs and Lennise Noralez who posted four winners. Fransheila Ortega led the Cougars in the match with nine assists.

 

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 13-9 overall on the season heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Dolphins will close out the regular season portion of the schedule on Saturday when they tussle with Old Westbury and Mount Saint Mary in Newburgh, N.Y. The Dolphins will take on the Panthers at 11:00 a.m. before battling with the host Knights at 1:00 p.m.
