Brooklyn, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team picked up its second straight Skyline Conference victory on Thursday night with a 4-0 triumph at NYU-POLY. Sarah Colletti (Mansfield, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season in the match and rookie Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) posted the first multiple goal game of her career.
Colletti opened the scoring in the 10th minute on Thursday with her first of the season and the third goal of her young career. The goal proved to be the game winner and also gives Colletti her first deciding marker in a Dolphin uniform.
After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Mount Saint Vincent blew the game open with three goals in the second half. Carr picked up her first of the night and second of the season in the 65th minute, before Eva Lugo (New York, N.Y.) tallied her first of the season just five minutes later to open a three goal advantage. Carr closed out the scoring in the 84th minute on a feed from Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) to send the Mount to the 4-0 final.
Carr finished her career night with four points and Flores' helper was her team leading second on the season for the Dolphins. After going nearly 500 minutes without a goal covering a five match losing streak, Mount Saint Vincent has now found the back of the net eight times in its last two games.
Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) picked up the win and her second career shutout in goal after making four saves on the night. Catherine Mistretta made 13 stops between the pipes for the Blue Jays.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent held the advantage in shots 22-6 and took seven of the eight corner kicks in the match. Fouls in the match were called 3-2 against the Dolphins.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 4-11 overall on the season and to 3-6 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will close out the 2010 regular season on Saturday when they host Farmingdale State. Kick-off with the Rams at Gaelic Park is slated for 5:00 p.m.
